• Conservation Rates

  • Background

The Public Advocates Office and California's investor owned water utilities are working together to implement conservation rates. These rates create an economic incentive for customers to reduce consumption. In February 2008, the CPUC adopted a settlement for conservation rates between the Office and the following utilities:

    • California Water Service
    • Suburban Water
    • Park Water - Los Angeles

In May 2011, the CPUC issued a decision modifying the existing conservation data reporting requirements to measure the impact of adopted conservation rate designs on customers, including low-income customers.

  • The Public Advocates Office's Policy Position

In addition to conservation efforts on rate design, the Public Advocates Office is continuing to advocate for effective water conservation programs.

The Office filed comments on the Proposed Decision on February 16, 2010 and reply comments April 27, 2011.
