California American Water General Rate Case (A.19-07-004)

On July 1, 2019, Cal Am filed its application to change customer rates beginning in 2021. The Public Advocates Office protested Cal Am’s application and provided its report and recommendations on February 14, 2020. The following table compares the proposed changes of Cal Am and the recommendations of the Public Advocates Office.

In addition to recommending smaller increases in average water rates, the Public Advocates Office recommended that the Commission stop the proliferation of alternative ratemaking mechanisms, which result in less transparent but more frequent customer bill impacts through surcharges and new rates.
